Some people think that organizing your house requires a lot of work, or setting up a complicated system. Many people think that getting organized is impossible. While that is not true, it does take a disciplined person not to return back to their old habits. Getting organized is quite easy, and there are many benefits to being organized. Here are five reasons why you should get organized.

You Will Have More Room

One of my favorite things about organizing your house is that I have more room. When I set about organizing one of the rooms, my goal is to make sure everything has its own place. This reduces clutter, and makes it easy for me to find anything I need at a single moment. Once everything has its own spot, it becomes easy to keep the room uncluttered.

You Will Be Able to Save Time

Knowing exactly where everything is is a great time saver. I have a cousin who’s life is a complete clutter, and she is always looking for things. She thinks I have a knack for knowing where everything is, but what it really is is that I am extremely organized. She keeps her incoming mail and important papers scattered around the house, while mine are neatly tucked away and organized into files in the filing cabinet. It is a rare occasion that I am unable to find something that I need.

You Will Save Money

How many times have you had to buy something again because you couldn’t find the one you originally purchased. A good example of this are pens and pencils. I use mine until they run out because I always know where they are. My pens and pencils are always in the same place. I pull one out, I use it, I put it back in its place. I may have more than one place that I keep my pens, that way if I’m in the kitchen and I need a pen, I don’t have to walk all the way to the office.

You Will Feel More In Control

This is a big one for me. I think it is what drives me to keep my life well organized. Did you know that a cluttered environment can unconsciously make you feel stress? Some people are not aware of this. This is something that I have always been aware of since I was a small child. Okay, I may be a bit of a fanatic, but I remember being a small child, and having to have everything in my room in its place before I went to bed. It just made me feel more at ease.

Organizing your house requires a bit of discipline to maintain. For some people this is not easy. The goal is to not lapse back into your old habits, or your efforts will get all cluttered again.

If you are trying to figure out how to declutter your home I have put together some quick tips and how to get started. This applies to drawers, closets or anything else that needs decluttering.

First, get 3 boxes, baskets or whatever you have laying around that will hold stuff. Each has a purpose. Picking up one thing at a time, ask yourself if you use it or will use it withing the next year. If the answer is yes then it goes in the Keep box. If the answer is no then it goes in the Give Away box.

Keep

The keep box is for things that you do use or will use within the year.

Give Away

The give away box will hold the things that you no longer have use for but are still in good condition and will be of some value to someone somewhere. These are things that you no longer like anymore. For example, That set of dishes that you purchased because you thought they were so cute, but are tired of. After you are done going through your things this box should go straight to the back of you car so they can be droped off at the good will store. You do not want to look through this box a second time or you may second guess yourself, putting you back into a clutter.

Throw away

For the throw away box you will throw into it anything that is trash, broken or things that are missing pieces or parts. Once you are done decluttering, this box should go immediately to the trash. No second guessing.

After you have dealt with the Give Away box and the Throw away box it is time to go through the Keep box. As you pick up each thing from the Keep box you need to ask yourself where the item would go that would make it most useful. For example, if you were to pull out of the box a pair of reading glasses ask yourself where they would suit you best? Maybe that would be in the kitchen where you can read recipes while cooking or maybe in the night stand drawer where you do your reading in bed.

After you have completed the step above and you still have items left in the Keep box you will want to group like items together. For example. if you find you have several like items that are bobby pins, pony tails and qtips then it will seem obvious that they belong in the bathroom. At this point if your groups of items are many then you may want to purchase containers or bins to keep them all in one place.

Thats all there is to it. It’s just a matter of taking the time to sift through your things and getting them organized. You will feel so much better after the task is complete.

There isn’t a single person in this world that wouldn’t want to gain a little time and energy in life. We can achieve this by spending a little time each day downsizing our lives. This will lower stress and leave you feeling satisfied.

Every one of us has things in our lives cluttering up closets that we will never use again. And yet, we resist getting rid of these things. After all, we acquired these things at one time because we wanted them. We probably even paid good money for them. I think we tend to fight getting rid of our clutter because we just know that as soon as we remove it from our lives we will suddenly need it again.

It is human nature to collect more than we really need. Some of us collect a clutter beyond belief. Others only collect what they think they will need and use and yet, we are still cluttered.

Once a year we should go through our closets, drawers, garages, clear the shelves of the things we have not used in at least a year.

I love the saying “Less is More” I try to remember this one I am out shopping or surfing the internet. I ask myself, do I really need this? Is there something that I already have that will satisfy the need for this item?

Over the years as we collect a lot of things. Some people have garages that are so full they have to make isles to move around in them. I have even been to a few houses where people had boxes and boxes of stuff stacked along their walls, having to make isles in their home to get around. When we get to this point we have defiantly gone too far. Even if you had something that you wanted to use again you probably wouldn’t be able to find it.

So lets get organized!

If you have clothes in your closet that do not fit anymore, it’s time to give them to the good will. I know, we always think we will eventually lose enough weight to fit back into these clothes. But by the time we do it is out dated. It’s time to let them go.

How about those boxes of mismatched dishes and utensils you have packed away in the garage. Let them go as well. Donate these as well.

Magazines are just one of those things that we think we are going to get back to someday and read through them. Of course, we never do because we don’t have time to read through the old when we can read through the new.

If you feel like you are saving them for reference material, I have good news. The internet is at the tip of your fingers. Anything and everything you need to look up is there.

If you are struggling to through things our or just give them away because you feel like they have value then have a garage sell. You few hundred dollars or more is always welcome. Then after the sell has ended through it all in boxes and donate them to the good will. I promise you, you will feel wonderful…
