Make sure you only have the things that belong in the room in it! In the bathroom you only have thing that belong there the same with the kitchen making them as functional as possible. The same holds true for your lounge if it does not belong get it out of there this will leave things like magazines and books if the books do not all fit on the shelf then reduce the number of books. Only keep as many magazines as will fit in a small magazine rack three or four or get them out and only keep the one in there that you are currently reading. have a small drawer for remotes and T.V. guides. keep only one or two nick nack type thing in the intyer room making it as functional as possible. If you have important papers letters put them in a fileing cabinet after taking the apropreate action on them.
In short ask yourself how you want the lounge to function.

There are literally thousands of functional (and stylish!) ideas for de-cluttering your home.
Here are just a few of my personal favourites:
- head down to your local charity store or grandparents house to find/purchase a couple of old fashioned suitcases in styles/colours of your choice. I suggest you buy three of differing sizes. stack them on top of each other (largest at bottom!) to create a multipurpose piece of furniture. use as a bedside table, display table, coffee table etc. Store clutter (books, out of season clothes, spare blankets/pillows etc.) in the suitcases. Put the things you use most frequently in the top most suitcase.
Storage doesn’t necessarily have to be visible. In fact nowadays, most storage is cleverly designed to be hidden in otherwise wasted spaces/areas of you bedroom. Extra space under your bed? Slide a couple of baskets, boxes or sealable containers to store books, out of season clothing or maybe even some extra bedding and pillows. Limited floor space? Why not start soaring upwards? Fill your unused wall space with shelves to display personal memories and accessories. Do you own a wardrobe that doesn’t quite reach the roof? Purchase decorative boxes or baskets and store items that you don’t use or require frequently, above your wardrobe. Even the inside of your cupboard doors can be used for storage. Just attach a couple of hooks and voila! You now have a easily accessible place to hang your scarfs, belts and handbags.
Sometimes, you may have plenty of storage but fail to use it to its full capacity. Successful storage does require proper organisation. For example: to take full advantage of your drawers, use up every last square of space by filling it with small boxes, containers and dividers. This will keep everything easy to locate and make your drawers much more efficient.
Places like IKEA sell and produce handy storage units for the interior of your wardrobe, even allowing you to personalise it by choosing the appropriate fitting for your needs. For some reason, wardrobes are generally quite tiny, so investing in a similar storage system will make the most of your available space.
A laundry hamper is an excellent idea to maintain the overall state of your bedroom, as long as you actually put your dirty clothes inside it! Just remember, only buy as much storage as you require. Too much wasted storage space is just as bad as having no storage at all!
