We’ve got so many papers, antiques from my grandparents’ house (after they moved to assisted living facilities), and just JUNK in general. I want to help clean but I never know what papers or documents are important, and I really don’t want to throw out like a bill or something…
We’re trying to move all my grandparents’ stuff downstairs to the basement, so that’s slowly getting taken care of…

But yeah. The problem right now isn’t mopping or vacuuming– the problem is getting rid of junk!

Thanks for your help.

It may take a while, but go through all the papers. Anything that is older than 7 years can be shredded, especially if it contains personal information. Any envelopes, flyers, or papers that contain nothing with a name, address or phone number can be recycled whole. Buy some storage boxes for the documents and bills that need to be saved and file them according to dates. Maybe organize a yard sale to get rid of some of the excess things that aren’t family heirlooms or antiques. This is a good way to earn some extra pocket money. Books that are about travel, or contain maps that are older than a few years old should be gotten rid of, as the information contained in them is no longer current. Really old books like encyclopedias could be donated to a library. Anything that is broken, or is in pieces–throw away. Hope this at least gives you some direction in clearing up your clutter.

As for the papers I would get file folders (several) and label a folder for each type of paper work grandpa’s bank statement, mom’s gas bill, phone bill, grandpa’s medical insurance, ect………. as for the antiques maybe box them up and label the boxes or put them in display cases or on shelves. You might want to make sure your parents are ok with you doing this first. Good Luck

Hey this is the girl that asked the question about the coontails. You said they were really tacky and childish. Well I’m thirteen, so I can be childish if I want too. And personally I don’t give a fuck if somebody thinks they’re tacky. Peace.
