How do I cut out the clutter?

I have a huge home and you would think with all the space it would make it easier to keep things organized. But with four children 3 of which are in elementary school (lots of papers hanging around) and one being a toddler, a husband who is a pack rat and myself trying to keep up with all of it is a huge task. Seriously i am at the point of getting a huge trash can and tossing anything no matter how important it is!
I don’t mind being the one doing all the housework considering i stay home and my husband works his ass off to support that decision. But now i am just overwhelmed with all the mess.
I guess what i am looking for is any and all suggestions to try to declutter my home and find places for everything all while on a tight budget. It would be easy to just go and buy tons of organizers but honestly I’ve looked and that could get expensive.
my trouble areas are kids rooms and laundry!

Hubby needs to get control of his pack-rat habit.
Give the older kids chores (make their beds, put away their toys).
Also, give each older child a plastic tote to store their papers and school books. And a plastic bag to throw away the stuff you don’t need any more is actually a good idea.
Good luck: Being a bit of a pack rat myself, and with my husband being one, I can sympathize!

what I did I took my smallest room and turned into a toy room and I put a mark for each person even my husband has his corner..
and the basement I turned that into a study slash library with computer.desk.seating,all their writing stuff, all home lesson must be done there, toys must be put back in its place and I am happy..
sometimes they try to take over but I don’t let them..think about it you might not have to spend any money at all..just change around stuff..I am a mother of three kids and a husband who is a baby too..my kids are14 years,5 years, and 4 years…and very messy, and wants to keep everything…the moment something breaks I put it in the garbage, and that take away a lot of mess…also buy bins and put about four in each room, that works for me….good luck my dear I know what you are going through..
