Suggestions to reduce stress in the home?

Posted by How To Get Organized, in how to declutter

My wife and I have recently noticed the level of stress in our home has increased. Much of it is related to our jobs (my company is in Chp11 so job security is an issue, her company is having issues also). We have two children, ages 10 months and 3 1/2, they are an absolute blessing, but keeping up with them can be challenging. Our mornings are rushed, and our afternoons are rushed to figure out and prepare dinner, play with and get the little ones down for the night…then we are exhausted and feel like we are letting ourselves and our house get further and further behind.

Any ideas or suggestions from others out there in similar situations? Need ideas on how to better organize our time, declutter our home and lives, and learn to relax.

Turn everything off, and do something productive that you are good at. Start a project. It can be something simple like a puzzle. Once you see it come together and finally complete it, you should feel a sense of accomplishment. You two can work on your own separate "projects" or you can do one together. You can even try to get the kids involved.

If you turn off all distractions like the TV, the computer, the radio, etc. you should find your mind more relaxed and clear. After distractions are gone, I personally feel the urge to go exercise, wash the dishes or clean up the house (anything that is productive). Doing these little things can help reduce your stress levels (because they are easy and you have nothing else to do) and will make you feel like you’ve accomplished something, so you should feel better about yourself.

    Hope this helps.

    Divide and conquer:

First, make weekly menus so you know what is for dinner ahead of time.

Alternate nights for putting the young-ins down, cooking, cleaning, etc.

Get a babysitter at least one night every other week and go on a date together, just like old times.

Exercise together and with the kids, it will make them tired and they will go to sleep quicker. Take a family walk after dinner.

Find calming music and pipe it into the rooms you use most.

Take a break when you need it, not when you get a chance.

Take baths in the evenings rather than showers in the morning.

Play as you work, throw the rag at each other when it is wet. Make things fun to do.

Sing, especially as a family, the kids love it.
